Photo of Maui Seascape

EAST MAUI COASTLINE
This photograph was taken on the east cost of Maui, north of the village of Hana. The eastern two-thirds of Maui is dominated by the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala, whose slopes drop fairly rapidly to the sea.
Although the state of Hawaii is famous for its beaches, many areas of the seacoast are rocky, like this scene. This is particularly true for the Big Island and eastern Maui, where nature has not had enough millennia to soften the edges of the island's volcanic birth.
