    Fresh Lava Flow

Photo of fresh lava flow

LAVA
A finger of glowing lava trickles over a previous flow which has cooled. This ropy, swirling type of lava is called "pahoehoe."
Note a few tiny specks of green as seeds germinate in crevices in the cooled lava. In the midst of devastation, life begins anew.
(Also note that I cheated by zooming in on the hot lava in the main gallery page--the orange glow got lost when I attempted to shrink the whole image.)
